Full credit to the will and determination of those involved at Ecuador Eco Adventure in promoting and delivering tourism packages that not only ensure you experience scenery quite unlike anything you will have ever seen before, but do so in a manner that is giving a little bit back to the ecological treasure that is Ecuador.
A trip to El Altar organised through the team at Ecuador Eco Adventure with a kaleidoscopic array of vistas was a certain highlight of my journey through many parts of South America. A place that few locals yet alone tourists get to witness was the exact type of adventure I was looking for and as a result formed a number of life-long friends and invaluable contacts. Buena suerte caballeros!
Wladimir took us out on a horseback-riding trip around the beautiful Chimborazo Mountain. We got the horses from a local indigenous community, which were great, as they are both suitable for inexperienced riders and able to run like hell. We camped out in the sierra and arrived in a small place called Salinas the next day, just in time to watch the annual rodeo happen. Great fun! Our group was super entertaining and Wladimir is a caring and stunningly knowledgeable guide, so I highly recommend him for whichever tour or activity in this area.
During my stay in Ecuador, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to partake in a two-day horseback riding trip through the countryside surrounding Mt. Chimborazo with Wlady. The trip was absolutely fabulous! We embarked from Riobamba and took a bus to Arenal the friendly community president met us at his home. There were six of us total, the community president, one good friend of mine, Wlady and two other travellers, one from Australia and the other from China. It was wonderful to meet other fellow travellers as we got along really well. We packed our belongings on the horses, including a few clothes, a tent, food and water and then set out during late morning on the first day. I was absolutely amazed at the beauty of the surrounding hills and of course Chimborazo in the distance. We passed llamas grazing, and natives tending their herds of sheep, life was so peaceful out there. I honestly felt like I was in a dream, as I was continuously being overwhelmed with the beauty of the land. We continued on horseback until late afternoon, and were surprised by a coming rainstorm as we arrived in Salinas. We were warmly welcomed by an indigenous family who lived and worked in Salinas. They were so hospitable I couldn’t believe it, providing us with food and a room in which to stay. The woman there owned a textile store in which a collective of women from the community worked. They handmade scarves, hats, sweaters and purses to sell in the store. They were so beautiful and a great way to support the community of women. We conversed with the family and shared a few drinks and slept nice and sound during the night.
The next day we set out again early in the morning. The horses were in good spirits as were we. We continued amongst the countryside, taking in the beautiful scenery and the wonderful cool weather. In the afternoon we came across a beautiful overlook of Mt. Chimborazo. The clouds opened up just enough to give us a view of the entire mountain and it nearly took my breath away. We continued through the hills and just about the time that my butt was about to be blue and purple we arrived at our final destination the hot springs. That was the most wonderful ending to a journey like that. Soothing our muscles and conversing with the natives there was amazing. We never saw one other tourist the entire trip and that was one of the things that I loved the most. We really were experiencing a part of Ecuador that most visitors never get to see. I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to take part in this trip. It truly is a unique and unexplainable adventure. If you have the opportunity you shouldn’t pass it up, it most definitely confirmed my assumption of the overwhelming beauty of Ecuador.
One of the best parts of my trip in Ecuador was for sure the horseback-riding trip that Wladimir organized for us. He took the horses and the guides from a local community, in a fair way that we definitly prefer, and he drives me and my friends in the incredible Chimborazo Mountain for two days. We spent the night camping at 4000 meters, enjoyed together the Rodeo of Salinas and we have a special view of the real Ecuador thanks to Wladimir. He is not only a good friend but also a perfect guide always ready to help you in many ways and take care of avery little detail. I and my friends are very glad to Wladimir for all the energy and the knowledge tha he shared with us.
If you want to taste the real Ecuaodr and to have a wonderful adventure I highly recommend Wladimir.
Exploring with Wlady was surely a highlight of my time in Ecuador… sure, you can check out Banos, Cuenca, Otavalo - they’re all great, but traveling with Wlady ensures that you’ll really be in the midst of it all. We spent one day hiking in the shadows of a beautiful volcano and had the whole place to ourselves - when I returned to Quito no one had ever heard of it. It was gorgeous, and after a long hike through forests blanketed in ash and over past lava flows, we settled around a table at a local house for lunch. Wlady said something like, “So you guys in the US are really into fresh, organic food and all that, right?” I said yes and then realized that our lunch had been picked from the surrounding trees and our roasted chicken had been running around the yard as we approached the house. It was delicious!
The next day we went to Punay, a breathtakingly beautiful mountain south of Riobamba, where, after hiking for a few hours and Wlady pointing out and identifying every plant and animal we encountered, we got to watch the sun set over the clouds from the very western edge of the Andes - it was the most amazing sight I have ever seen… the next morning we made some breakfast as an owl hunted the summit around us and we hiked down for another fabulous homemade meal.
I loved hanging out with Wlady and valued his company so much - he knows the history of his area and Ecuador at large, and has a wealth of knowledge regarding plants and animals. Couldn’t recommend him more!
I was in Ecuador last year around the same time. I was there for 5 months and the most memorable experiences happened with Wlady. Claire and I rode a bus down to meet him because he offered to take us on a two day horse tour around Chimborazo. Needless to say, the trip was incredible! I have complete trust in Wlady capabilities as a eco friendly tour guide. I was constantly impressed by his knowledge of Ecuador. The mountains are beautiful. We passed through a village called Salinas, home to such kind hearted people who let us stay a night in their home…
I also went on another trip - we camped atop of Punay. The views were breath taking and the energy there was special. The hike was challenging (in a good way) and we were completely rewarded for our efforts. I recommend taking a trip with Wlady. He showed me exactly what i wanted to see… away from the tourist track. He knows so much about the area, history, people, and nature that he introduces to you.
i trekked the altar with Ecuador Eco Adventure last year, talk about getting off the beaten track! respect for the Ecuador Eco Adventure team who are providing travelers with an unforgettable experience and at the same time giving back to the local communities.
que les vaya bien chicos!
I stayed with Wlady for two weeks in Riobamba, one of the highlights for me was waking each morning to the rising Chimborazo seen from my bedroom window, amazing place to sit and write my journals. He took me for a hike off the beaten track to a valley we had all to ourselves, wandering through a small village that was destroyed by the mighty lava flow of the Tungurahua Volcano near Banos, before we proceeded onwards stream jumping, scaling mountains and finally resting for a cold refreshing dip in a natural hot tub. If theres one man you need to seek adventure, look no further, he really is the Indiana Jones of Ecuador..
Cheers for all brother and to Jake for creating this website..
I have traveled all around the world, I have seen so many beautiful landscape but I can’t forget my trip with Wlady. I hope you will have the chance to join him for a tour… just pure passion for the nature!
I just spent an incredible sightseeing tour with Wlady and Giovany our extremely competent driver, in the Andes and the coast of Ecuador. The hospitality shown by them, and the knowledge of the country was fabulous. I was able to see and learn so much about Ecuador by having Wlady introduce me to so much local custom, foods and sites.
I highly recommend Wlady to arrange a tour for any and all of your needs, no matter what part of the country you desire to see. Thank you again and best of luck in the future.
